Café dryer repair

• Runs a full cycle but clothes are still damp

  Restricted venting first, then a failed heating element or gas valve coil. A load that takes two cycles is the early warning.

• No heat at all

  Thermal fuse, heating element, high-limit thermostat or, on gas models, the igniter and valve coils.

• Drum will not turn

  A snapped drive belt is the usual answer, and it is a quick fix. Seized idler pulleys and drum rollers come next.

• Squealing or thumping while it runs

  Drum rollers, the idler pulley or the rear drum bearing. Worth doing early: a collapsed roller can score the drum.

• Dryer shuts off partway through

  A thermal cutoff opening under heat, usually because the vent is restricted and the cabinet is overheating.

• Burning smell during a cycle

  Stop the machine and unplug it. This is lint against a heating element or a seized motor, and both need attention before the next load.

What goes wrong with Café dryers?

Refrigerator dispenser boards is the fault we attend most on this combination. Café is GE's design line, sharing mechanicals with GE Profile under customisable hardware. Repairs follow GE parts, but the trim and handles are model specific.

How often should the vent be cleaned?

Once a year for a typical household, and more if the run is long, has several elbows, or you dry heavy loads. If a cycle has quietly stretched from 45 minutes to 90, the vent is the first thing to check.

Gas or electric, does it change the repair?

It changes the heat source, not the rest of the machine. Gas dryers add an igniter, a flame sensor and valve coils; belts, rollers and thermostats are the same on both.

Can a blocked vent damage the dryer?

Yes. Trapped heat repeatedly trips the high-limit thermostat and eventually kills the element or the control board. Clearing the vent protects the repair you just paid for.
