Pump and lock repairs run about an hour. Bearing work takes half a day.
Washer repair across Greater Boston
Washing machines fail loudly and inconveniently, usually with a drum full of water and wet laundry. The good news is that the two most common causes, a blocked drain pump and a worn door lock, are both same-visit repairs that cost a fraction of a new machine.
Front loaders and top loaders fail in different ways. Front loaders wear their door boot and drum bearings, and they show it as leaks and a rising grinding noise on the spin cycle. Top loaders more often lose their lid switch, drive belt or shifter assembly, and simply stop agitating.
Error codes narrow this down before we arrive. If your machine is showing one, tell us the code when you book and there is a good chance the part is already on the van.

Washer repair symptoms we see every week
Recognise one of these and you already know most of what a technician needs to hear on the phone.
Will not drain, drum stays full of water
A coin, a sock or a hairpin caught in the drain pump is the most common cause in every brand. Second most common is a kinked or blocked drain hose.
Will not spin, clothes come out soaking
A door lock that no longer reports as latched, a snapped drive belt, or worn carbon brushes on the motor.
Loud grinding or a rumble that builds with speed
Drum bearings. Caught early this is a bearing kit; left long enough the drum spider corrodes and the repair stops making sense.
Leaking from the front of the machine
The door boot on a front loader tears where items get trapped in the fold. Leaks from the back are usually hose connections or the dispenser.
Machine walks across the floor on spin
Worn suspension rods or shock absorbers letting the drum swing, or simply a machine that was never levelled after delivery.
Error code on the display
Codes point at a specific circuit. Give us the code when you book so the right part rides along on the first visit.
On the van
These are the parts we carry as stock, which is why most repairs finish without a second visit. Pump and lock repairs run about an hour. Bearing work takes half a day.
- Drain pumps and pump filters
- Door locks and lid switches
- Drive belts and motor couplers
- Suspension rods and shock absorbers
- Inlet valves and pressure switches
- Door boots for common front loaders
How a repair visit actually goes
No four-hour windows, no diagnosis-by-phone, no price that changes once the panel is off.
- 1
You tell us what it is doing
Three questions online, or one phone call. The more specific the symptom, the better the odds the right part rides along on the first visit.
- 2
We confirm a two-hour window
Not a morning, not an all-day wait. We call back to agree a window and ring again when the van is close.
- 3
Diagnosis, then a flat price
The technician finds the fault and quotes the whole repair before touching anything. If you decline, you pay the diagnostic and nothing more.
- 4
Repaired, with 90 days behind it
Most repairs finish in the same visit. Parts and labour carry a 90-day warranty.

What people said after a washing machine repair
Every review below is copied word for word from the company's public Thumbtack profile.
Thank you so much! Great customer service. Came and fixed our washer, looks good as new! Hire him
Highly recommend for appliance needs! Came same day and fixed washer for a fair price! I highly recommend for any appliance needs!
Tim responded right away and showed up in 20 minutes and had the parts in hand. Great service and will be using them in the future for any appliance issues
Ramen came out the same day, diagnosed the problem and brought it back to life. He has all the right tools and knows how to use them. The problem was hard to diagnose after the initial repair but he nailed it. He's friendly and professional. He is definitely worth hiring. He will be my first call from now on when I need an appliance repaired.
Tim was very professional and did his job correctly but was sent a defective part. Ramin came and replaced the defective part and my stove works again. After an initial problem that wasn't their fault, masterfix did an excellent job. I would not hesitate to use them again. Thanks Tim and Ramin!
My dryer was fixed immediately and the contractor gave me filter change recommendations. However, it was not cheap.
Washer repair questions
- The machine is full of water. Can I do anything before you arrive?
- Yes, and it helps. Most front loaders have a small drain hose behind the filter flap at the bottom front. Put a shallow tray under it, pull the plug, and let it empty. Then leave the filter alone for the technician.
- Is a bearing replacement worth it?
- On a machine under seven years old from a brand that sells parts, usually yes. On an older budget machine it often costs more than half the price of a replacement, and we will show you the numbers before you decide.
- Do you repair stacked washer-dryer units?
- Yes. They need unstacking to reach the washer, which adds time but not complexity.
- My washer smells even after a clean cycle.
- That is nearly always biofilm in the door boot fold and the detergent drawer, plus a partly blocked drain. It is a cleaning job rather than a repair, and we will show you how to keep it from coming back.
Washing machine still not right?
Tell us the appliance and your ZIP code. We will call back with a two-hour window, usually within the hour.
