GE Appliances cooktop repair

GE appliances are common across older Greater Boston housing stock, and parts availability for them is excellent even on units from the 2000s.

Induction failures are their own category. A zone that cuts out after a few minutes is usually a cooling fan or a thermal sensor rather than the coil, and the fix is far cheaper than most people expect once the fault is properly identified.

Cooktop repair symptoms on a GE Appliances

These are the cooktop faults we see on every brand. The GE Appliances-specific ones are listed underneath.

  • One zone will not heat

The element or induction coil, its relay on the board, or a limiter that has opened.

  • Induction zone cuts out after a few minutes

Cooling fan or thermal protection. The unit is shutting itself down to avoid overheating.

  • Touch controls unresponsive or erratic

Moisture under the glass or a failed control panel. Spills that seep past the seal are the usual cause.

  • Error code on an induction cooktop

Most codes point at pan detection, temperature or the inverter board. The code narrows it quickly.

  • Cracked glass surface

A cracked top must be replaced rather than repaired. We can quote the panel and tell you if it is worth doing.

  • Clicking without ignition on gas

Igniter alignment, moisture, or a spark module fault, same as a gas range.

What tends to fail on GE Appliances

  • Refrigerator main control boards failing
  • Dishwasher heating elements and drying faults
  • Range oven igniters weakening until the valve no longer opens
  • Ice maker modules jamming

  • Tim was very professional and did his job correctly but was sent a defective part. Ramin came and replaced the defective part and my stove works again. After an initial problem that wasn't their fault, masterfix did an excellent job. I would not hesitate to use them again. Thanks Tim and Ramin!

Questions we get asked

What goes wrong with GE Appliances cooktops?
Refrigerator main control boards failing is the fault we attend most on this combination. GE appliances are common across older Greater Boston housing stock, and parts availability for them is excellent even on units from the 2000s.
Is a cracked induction top dangerous to use?
Yes. Liquid reaching the electronics under a cracked surface is a shock and fire risk. Stop using that zone until the panel is replaced.
My induction cooktop does not recognise a pan.
Check the pan first with a magnet: if it does not stick firmly to the base, induction will not see it. If the pan is right, it is the detection circuit.
Can a single zone be replaced, or is it the whole cooktop?
Individual coils, elements and relays are replaceable on most models. The glass surface is the one part that has to be replaced whole.
Do you carry GE Appliances parts for this?
We stock the common failures listed on this page. Anything model specific is ordered after the diagnosis, and we tell you the wait before you commit. Every part carries 90 days of warranty.
