Viking range hood repair

• Fan runs but pulls no air

  Saturated filters, a grease-loaded blower wheel, or a duct damper stuck closed.

• Fan will not switch on

  The switch or touch panel, the motor capacitor, or the motor itself.

• Loud rattling or vibration

  An unbalanced blower wheel, usually from uneven grease build-up, or loose mounting hardware.

• Lights work but the fan does not

  Separate circuits. That points at the fan switch, the speed control or the motor.

• Hood turns on by itself

  A failed touch control or moisture in the panel, common on hoods mounted over a high-steam cooktop.

• Downdraft will not rise

  The lift motor or its gear rack. Downdrafts have a mechanism a standard hood does not.

What goes wrong with Viking range hoods?

Range igniters and spark modules is the fault we attend most on this combination. Viking professional ranges have heavy gas trains and simple mechanics under the surface. The faults are usually igniters and valves rather than electronics.

How often should hood filters be cleaned?

Metal mesh and baffle filters go in the dishwasher every month or two under normal cooking. Charcoal filters in recirculating hoods are not washable and need replacing.

My hood is loud but moves less air than it used to.

That combination is nearly always grease on the blower wheel. Cleaning it restores both the airflow and the noise level.

Can a recirculating hood be converted to vent outside?

Sometimes, if there is a practical duct route. It is more of a carpentry question than an appliance one, and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
