Whirlpool freezer repair

• Freezer is running but not freezing

  Start relay, thermostat, or a defrost system that has iced the evaporator solid.

• Heavy frost build-up on the walls

  A door seal letting humid air in, or the defrost heater no longer clearing the coil.

• Compressor runs constantly

  A seal that no longer closes, a thermostat stuck closed, or a condenser coil packed with dust.

• Clicking every few minutes then silence

  The start relay is trying and failing to start the compressor. Left alone, this can cook the compressor windings.

• Water pooling underneath

  A blocked defrost drain, the same fault refrigerators get, or melt water from a unit that stopped freezing overnight.

• Alarm sounding on a modern freezer

  Temperature alarm, usually triggered by a door left ajar or by an evaporator that has iced up.

What goes wrong with Whirlpool freezers?

Dryer thermal fuses tripping from restricted vents is the fault we attend most on this combination. Whirlpool builds the most repairable appliances we see. Parts are widely stocked, diagrams are honest, and a fifteen-year-old Whirlpool is usually worth fixing.

How long will food stay frozen while I wait for a technician?

A full chest freezer that stays shut holds safely for about 48 hours, an upright for around 24. Keep the door closed and do not check on it.

There is ice on the back wall. Should I defrost it manually?

You can, and it will run again for a while, but the ice will return within weeks. The defrost system is the actual fault and it is worth fixing properly.

Do you service garage and basement freezers?

Yes. Note that many freezers are not rated for unheated spaces below about 40°F, and a garage freezer in a Massachusetts winter can stop cycling for that reason alone.
