Garbage disposal repair across Greater Boston

A disposal that hums without turning is jammed, not dead, and that distinction saves most people the price of a new unit. The flywheel is stuck on something, the motor is stalled, and a hex key in the base usually frees it in a minute.

A disposal that does nothing at all has either tripped its own reset button or lost power at the switch. Both are worth checking before anyone books a visit.

The one fault that genuinely ends a disposal is a leak from the body itself. Leaks at the sink flange or the dishwasher inlet are repairable; a corroded shell is not.

A home garbage disposal of the kind we repair

Garbage disposal repair symptoms we see every week

Recognise one of these and you already know most of what a technician needs to hear on the phone.

  • Hums but will not spin

A jam at the flywheel. Freeing it and clearing the obstruction usually restores it fully.

  • Completely dead, no sound

The overload reset has tripped, or power is not reaching the unit at the switch.

  • Leaking under the sink

The sink flange, the dishwasher inlet, or the discharge connection. A leak from the body shell means the unit is finished.

  • Draining slowly

A blockage downstream in the P-trap rather than in the disposal itself.

  • Unusually loud, metallic rattle

Something hard in the chamber, or a broken impeller.

  • New dishwasher will not drain

The knockout plug in the disposal inlet was left in place during the dishwasher install.

On the van

These are the parts we carry as stock, which is why most repairs finish without a second visit. Usually 30 to 60 minutes, including a full replacement.

  • Sink flanges and mounting assemblies
  • Splash guards
  • Discharge tubes and gaskets
  • Complete replacement units
  • Switches and air switches
  • Dishwasher inlet fittings

How a repair visit actually goes

No four-hour windows, no diagnosis-by-phone, no price that changes once the panel is off.

  1. 1

You tell us what it is doing

Three questions online, or one phone call. The more specific the symptom, the better the odds the right part rides along on the first visit.

  2. 2

    We confirm a two-hour window

Not a morning, not an all-day wait. We call back to agree a window and ring again when the van is close.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis, then a flat price

The technician finds the fault and quotes the whole repair before touching anything. If you decline, you pay the diagnostic and nothing more.

  4. 4

Repaired, with 90 days behind it

Most repairs finish in the same visit. Parts and labour carry a 90-day warranty.

Garbage disposal repair questions

The disposal hums. Can I clear it myself?
Often, yes. Switch it off at the wall, use the hex key that came with it in the socket underneath, and work the flywheel back and forth. Then press the red reset button.
Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
Jams, flange leaks and switches are worth repairing. A leaking body shell means replacement, and the unit itself is not an expensive appliance.
Which foods actually damage a disposal?
Fibrous vegetable skins, coffee grounds in quantity, and cooking fat. None of them break the motor, but together they build the blockage that eventually does.
Do you install new disposals?
Yes, including the plumbing connections and the dishwasher inlet.
