MasterFix Appliance Repair

Usually one visit of 45 to 90 minutes for built-in units.

Microwave repair across Greater Boston

Countertop microwaves are rarely worth repairing. Built-in, over-the-range and drawer microwaves are a different matter: they are expensive, they are cut into cabinetry, and replacing one often means replacing the trim kit too.

A microwave that runs but does not heat is a magnetron, a diode or a capacitor. A microwave that does nothing at all is usually a door interlock switch, which is a cheap part and the single most common failure in the appliance.

Microwaves store a lethal charge in their high-voltage capacitor even when unplugged. This is genuinely not a safe appliance to open at home.

A home microwave of the kind we repair

Microwave repair symptoms we see every week

Recognise one of these and you already know most of what a technician needs to hear on the phone.

  • Runs but food stays cold

Magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. All three sit in the high-voltage circuit.

  • Nothing happens when the door closes

A door interlock switch, the most common microwave fault by a wide margin.

  • Loud buzzing while running

A failing high-voltage transformer or a diode on its way out.

  • Turntable will not turn

The turntable motor or its coupler. Simple and inexpensive.

  • Sparking inside the cavity

Stop using it. A damaged waveguide cover or burnt cavity paint arcs and gets worse quickly.

  • Over-the-range fan or light dead

The vent fan motor or the lamp assembly, separate from the microwave circuit itself.

On the van

These are the parts we carry as stock, which is why most repairs finish without a second visit. Usually one visit of 45 to 90 minutes for built-in units.

  • Door interlock switches
  • Magnetrons and high-voltage diodes
  • Capacitors and transformers
  • Turntable motors and couplers
  • Touch panels and control boards
  • Vent fan motors and lamps

How a repair visit actually goes

No four-hour windows, no diagnosis-by-phone, no price that changes once the panel is off.

  1. 1

You tell us what it is doing

Three questions online, or one phone call. The more specific the symptom, the better the odds the right part rides along on the first visit.

  2. 2

    We confirm a two-hour window

Not a morning, not an all-day wait. We call back to agree a window and ring again when the van is close.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis, then a flat price

The technician finds the fault and quotes the whole repair before touching anything. If you decline, you pay the diagnostic and nothing more.

  4. 4

Repaired, with 90 days behind it

Most repairs finish in the same visit. Parts and labour carry a 90-day warranty.

  • Quick response and very punctual. He was able to identify that the control board in my appliance was damaged. After discussing the options, I decided to replace the appliance rather than repair it. I appreciate the prompt service and clear diagnosis.

Microwave repair questions

Is it worth repairing a microwave?
For built-in, drawer and over-the-range units, usually yes. For a countertop model, the repair often costs more than a replacement and we will say so before you book.
Can I replace a door switch myself?
Please do not. The high-voltage capacitor holds a dangerous charge even with the appliance unplugged, and it sits right beside the switches.
Do you repair microwave drawer units?
Yes, including Sharp and Bosch drawer models. They need pulling from the cabinet, which adds time.
My combo wall oven microwave stopped but the oven works.
They share a cabinet, not a circuit. The microwave half can be repaired on its own.

Microwave still not right?
